WhatsApp to Share User Data with Facebook

terms of agreementOn August 25, 2016, WhatsApp updated its terms and privacy policy in an attempt to test ways that people could communicate with businesses in the near future. For example, you may be able to receive information from your banks such as any fraudulent activities on your debit or credit card. The updated terms and privacy policy contains information about recently added new features such as end-to-end encryption, WhatsApp calling for WhatsApp mobile and desktop. Primarily, WhatsApp plans to share consumers information with Facebook. The information shared will include your telephone number, the operating system, and other information from your devices.

Many consumers are concerned about security as WhatsApp on its own is safe due to its encryption, but Facebook, on the other hand, does not have strong security. WhatsApp has ensured users that as they continue to coordinate with Facebook, users private information will remain private. Meaning that, no one will ever be able to access your information. Users’ telephone number will not be shared with anyone including advertisers. However, it is very important that users read the terms and privacy policy before agreeing to them. As an existing WhatsApp user, you can choose not to have any of your WhatsApp account information shared with Facebook. From the date of accepting the terms and agreement, you have 30 days to opt-out of having your information shared with Facebook.
